Service

Reviewing and organizing are how a field decides what counts as good work. I take the reviewing load seriously for the same reason I work on evaluation: the instruments a community uses to judge quality determine what it produces.

Organizing

Forthcoming

The Science of Personas Workshop

Co-organizer · tentative

A workshop on how generative systems model the people they serve — personas, audience adaptation, and the evaluation of personalization.

Community building

Jul 2021 – present

Speech and NLP Reading Group

Organizer · Microsoft Research India

A weekly lab-wide reading group on recent and classical work in speech and language processing, including arranging external speakers. Sustaining one for years is a teaching problem in its own right: choosing what a mixed-seniority room can productively read, and making it safe for the most junior person present to say they did not follow the paper.

Dec 2021 – present

Technology for Emerging Markets Reading Group

Organizer · Microsoft Research India

A weekly reading group on user-centered technology, selecting material for a mixed-seniority audience and hosting invited talks.
